This highly acclaimed SATB divisi choral arrangement of Dougie Maclean’s "Caledonia," arranged by Blake Morgan, is famously performed by the vocal octet VOCES8, with whom Blake Morgan sings.
Blake Morgan's arrangement of Dougie Maclean's heartwarming tune invites a piece of Scotland into the choral rehearsal room. "Caledonia" was the Latin name the Romans used for Scotland, and Dougie's original song has become somewhat of an unofficial anthem for the country.
The song itself was written by Dougie MacLean in 10 minutes in France. The Blake Morgan arrangement is celebrated for its ability to bring this "slice of Scotland" into a choir's repertoire.
The textures throughout the arrangement range from a delicate, "blended" sound to a roaring climb through the Scottish highlands before returning to the final refrain in a hymn-like harmonization; a powerful, climactic, and emotional rendition of the Scottish folk anthem bringing us to back to the place we call home. "Let me tell you that I love you, and I think about you all the time; Caledonia, you're calling me, and now I'm going home."
